The Association was formed in 1885, and until 1974 was known as "The Glasgow Master Wrights and Builders Association". With the aim of serving a larger area of members the name was changed to encompass members over a wider area.


The Objects of the Association are:

To ensure the co-operation and unity of the members.

To promote and protect the interests of the Building Trade and to act as the exponent of its views.

To co-operate with other Associations through the NSCC on all matters of benefit to the Trade.

To promote the formation and take part in Conciliation Boards, Wage Boards or other Organisations for the settlement of differences between employers and workmen.

To co-operate with any Association, Federation Board, Ministry or Government body or other Organisation in furtherance of the interests and objects of the Association.

To promote and encourage the use of standard codes of building.

To provide by arbitration for the amicable settlement of disputes.

To advance and improve the training and education of employers, apprentices and workmen for this purpose to promote and co-operate with other Organisations.

To form within the Association such Sections as may be deemed helpful or necessary for meeting the special requirements of members.

To do all such other things as are in the opinion of the Association, incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects, or any of them.
